Installation of a new release

If a problem occurs during installation of a new release, does the warranty still apply?

No problem. Even if you pull out the USB cable during transfer of the new firmware or if there is a power cut, it will still be possible to resume the update process.

Compatibility with the E3N clamp

Is the CA8332B compatible with the E3N clamp and its adapter?

No. Only the CA 8335 and the CA 8220 support this clamp (for the moment).

Inrush recording

Is it possible to record several INRUSH measurements in succession or is it necessary to erase it or download it onto a PC?
I have never done any  INRUSH measurements previously....

With the current firmware, it is only possible to store a single Inrush recording.
For several measurement sessions, you must save the data each time in PAT before erasing and performing a new acquisition.

Quantitative analysis of consumption

I want to complete the equipment installed in our factory, in particular by adding motors and an air-conditioning system. Is it possible to check beforehand whether my installation will support this equipment?

Yes, the Qualistar+ can be used for quantitative and qualitative analysis of the energy supplied by the distribution network. A continuous recording will show the power consumed before adding a load, in the form of a graph or a report.
The specifications of the equipment to be installed indicate the power required for it to function correctly. It is then possible to check whether the network will support the additions or not.

Current measurement on the secondary winding of a transformer

I would like to know whether there are instruments for current measurements (other than multimeter clamps) which are equipped with a fuse so that they can be inserted on the secondary windings of current transformers.

You want to measure a current on the secondary of the current transformers (CT) in an HV transformer substation.
We advise you to use a product in the Qualistar range, along with a 5 A adapter unit (measurement on CT). In this way, you will be able to measure and analyse a signal. The adapter's 4 mm connection technology will allow you to connect to it directly. Another solution takes advantage of the fact that the Qualistars can be connected directly to a current sensor clamp with a 5 A range (MN93A model) on the secondary of the CT. In both cases, you will have a direct measurement reading on the Qualistar.

Power survey

Which instrument would help us to carry out a power survey in order to install other electrical loads?

All our QUALISTAR products can be used for single-phase and balanced or unbalanced three-phase power surveys: measurement of the current, voltage and phase shift, calculation of the different power and harmonics values and of the source transformer's load factor.
The link below will take you to a Case Study detailing the formulae used in our instruments:

We advise you to contact our sales department for a presentation and demonstration of these products.

Software & drivers

Is it possible to obtain the C.A 8336 software driver, because I would like to interface this instrument with my data acquisition software?

No, we do not provide a communication protocol for the  C.A 8336 but the product is delivered with the free Power Analyser Transfer. This software is also available on our website:

We advise you to use one of our software products to retrieve the data in a format accepted by your database, such as xls.

DF displacement factor

What is the DF parameter on a Qualistar?

It is the distortion factor of a signal. A current or voltage signal is distorted in a regular way when it contains harmonics. The quantity of harmonics present is expressed as the THD (Total Harmonic Distortion). This value is a percentage.. It is expressed in comparison with the fundamental frequency of our signal (50 or 60 Hz in almost all cases in our electrical applications) or in comparison with the RMS value of the signal. On a Qualistar, the quantity of harmonics present in relation to the fundamental is the THD, and the quantity in relation to the whole signal is the DF.

Standards

What is the purpose of the IEC 61000-4-30, IEC 61000-4-7 and IEC 61000-4-15 standards?

They define the methods for measuring the quality of the power-supply voltage.
They cover: the RMS voltage, the frequency, voltage outages, dips and swells, unbalance, harmonics and flicker.

Measurement of phase-to-phase voltage

For measuring phase-to-phase voltages, does U1 correspond to the voltage between phases 1 and 2, U2 to the voltage between phases 2 and  3, and U3 to the voltage between phases 3 and 1?

The C.A 8336 three-phase network analyser allows phase-to-phase voltage measurement: U1 between phases 1 and 2, U2 between phases 2 and 3 and U3 between phases 3 and 1 if the phase rotation direction is clockwise; this can be checked with the Fresnel diagram on the instrument after three-phase connection.
